For eight weeks this summer, children attending the Boys and Girls Club of Easton summer program ,“Brain Gain”, discovered more about themselves and personally expressed it by creating their own poems using different forms using ‘found’ poetry, acrostic, and ‘black out’ poetry for eight weeks this summer. Led by teaching professionals, Cops ’n” Kids of Easton held three sessions each week for Grades 1-4, 5-8 and 9-12. One highlight was a visit from three Easton Police Department Officers Hackett, Jeanette and Santiago. The children experienced the caring and positive support of policemen through Officer Santiago’s reading of a poem, “I am a Policeman.” The officers answered questions about their lives as policemen and provided poetry books from the Cops ’n’ Kids Reading Room for each child to take home.
